Adam Gase: Steelers Have Minkah Fitzpatrick Playing In The Right Spot

Minkah Fitzpatrick spent his rookie season with Adam Gase in Miami. Both are no longer, as Gase was fired after the 2018 season and Fitzpatrick was traded away three games into the 2019 season.

With the Steelers and Jets playing this week, they’ll meet again.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Gase said Fitzpatrick is being used correctly in Pittsburgh.

“I’m happy for him. He’s playing a different spot. He’s playing exactly the position he was drafted to play,” Gase said.

Gase said that the Dolphins forced Fitzpatrick to play positions outside his comfort zone and the Steelers are putting him in a better position.

“We had a lot of injuries, so he had to play nickel and corner, never got to post safety until the end of the year,” Gase said. “They have him in the post, allow him to be aggressive, and he’s done that. The ball finds him.”

The Steelers traded their first-round pick to the Dolphins for Fitzpatrick on September 16th. Since acquiring Fitzpatrick, the Steelers have won 8 out of 12 games and Fitzpatrick has 5 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 defensive TDs in those games. He was voted to his first Pro Bowl on Monday.

The Steelers will also see a familiar face on Sunday, as Le’Veon Bell faces his former team.
