Jaguars’ Yannick Ngakoue Still Wants Trade, Unlikely To Sign Tag Anytime Soon

The deadline to sign tagged players to long-term deals is in two weeks. None of the 15 players tagged this offseason have landed multi-year deals.

Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue doesn’t plan to sign his franchise tag anytime soon and he still wants to be traded out of Jacksonville, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

The Jaguars used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Ngakoue worth $17.8 million for 2020.

Ngakoue has said he won’t sign a long-term deal with the Jaguars and wants to continue his career elsewhere.

“Things come to an end and it’s time for me to move on to the next chapter,Ngakoue told ESPN on April 7. “I really wanna be a part of a team that has a great culture and winning is a habit. I want to be part of something special.”

If the Jaguars don’t trade Ngakoue before the July 15 deadline, he could end up being in the same position as Jadeveon Clowney was last year. Clowney didn’t sign his tag and eventually Houston traded him to Seattle in late August.

Ngakoue, who was a third-round pick in 2016, has 38.5 sacks and 14 forced fumbles in his career.
