Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is in the midst of what could turn out to be the best season of his career.
Through nine games, only Bills receiver Stefon Diggs and Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf have more receiving yards than Kelce’s 769. The next closest tight end in yards this season is George Kittle with 474. Kittle’s six touchdowns are more than he had all of last season. He currently ranks second among all players and first among tight ends with 359 yards after the catch.
Eight of his ten receptions against the Panthers last week went for first downs, and Kelce leads the NFL with 42 first-down receptions.
He’s on pace for 103 catches, 1,370 yards and 10 touchdowns which would make this season the most productive of his stellar career.
Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez had four 1,000 yard seasons in his 17-year illustrious career. Kelce already has four in his career and is on his way for a fifth.
His level of play is at an all-time great. He is one of the best receiving threats the NFL currently has.
His chemistry with Patrick Mahomes is exceptional, and he’s under contract to play with Mahomes until the end of the 2025 season after both players signed extensions in the offseason.
“Coming to this offense, and I have never played with a tight end before, and then to get the best tight end in the league, it’s special,” Mahomes said. “I’ll always have a guy that I know where he’s at and that he’s going to continue to work.”
As crazy as it might sound, Kelce deserves more respect for what he’s been able to do. He’s the best tight end in football and at times it feels like it’s impossible to stop him.
