Washington lost starting safety Landon Collins to a torn Achilles on Sunday.
They’ve been using their bye week to try to find some help and Ron Rivera attempted to sign one his former players.
Former 49ers and Panthers safety Eric Reid told Rob Maaddi of the Associated Press that he was offered a spot on the team’s practice squad, but declined.
The 28-year-old Reid spent the first five seasons of his career in San Francisco before spending the last two years in Carolina.
He started all 16 games last year, recording 130 combined tackles, six passes defended, a forced fumble, and four sacks. He was released by the Panthers in March after the team hired a new coaching staff.
Troy Apke, Deshazor Everett and rookie Kamren Curl are the only safeties currently on Washington’s active roster.
