DK Metcalf: Eagles Should Make Jalen Hurts QB1

By Ari Meirov

The Eagles passed on taking DK Metcalf in the 2019 draft and instead selected JJ Arcega-Whiteside.

Philly will get to see Metcalf on Monday Night when the two teams clash, but Metcalf thinks the Eagles should consider a quarterback change before they meet.

Responding to an Instagram post asking, “Should Jalen Hurts be QB1 in Philly,” Metcalf commented “I vote YES.”

Eagles starter Carson Wentz currently leads the NFL in interceptions, fumbles and sacks. His 14 interceptions matches a career high, which he set as a rookie. His 40 sacks are already a career high, and that’s with six more games to play this season.

Despite all that, the Eagles still hold first-place in the NFC East with a 3-6-1 record.

Eagles coach Doug Pederson has been pressed multiple times by reporters on if he has considered making a change but he continues to insist that Wentz is the team’s starter and no changes will be made.

The Eagles signed Wentz to a four-year, $128 million extension with $107.9 million guaranteed in 2019. It will be virtually impossible for them to get out of that contract this offseason.

They used a second-round pick on Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts, but he’s only thrown two passes this season for 27 yards. He has 12 carries for 56 yards and one catch for three yards. Pederson did admit after Sunday’s loss to Cleveland that Hurts may see more playing time going forward.

Meanwhile, Monday night’s game will be Metcalf’s third meeting against Philadelphia. The two teams last met in the playoffs last year and Metcalf went off for 7 receptions, 160 yards and a touchdown.
