Tua Tagovailoa: NFL Is Hard But I Expected It To Be A Lot Harder

By Ari Meirov

The 6-3 Dolphins are on a five-game winning streak, with the last three wins coming with rookie Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback.

Through three games, Tagovailoa has more wins (3) than fellow rookies Justin Herbert (1) and Joe Burrow (2).

“I expected it to be a lot harder,” Tagovailoa told ProFootballTalk.com after Sunday’s game, “not that it’s not hard.”

Tagovailoa went on to explain that he expected to see plenty of different looks from defenses, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Tagovailoa was 15-of-25 for 169 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions on Sunday against the Chargers.

He is tied for the third-most passing touchdowns in a quarterback’s first three starts without throwing an interception.

“It looked like Tua made pretty good decisions,” head coach Brian Flores said following Sunday’s game. “It looked like there were some throws there that he got into some tight windows. We have a lot of confidence in all our draft picks, that they’re going to develop and improve. He’s no different. That’s what we’re trying to do — develop and improve. . . . We’re not going to talk about any player and say, ‘Hey, you’ve arrived and you’ve done it.’ Everyone has got to improve and get better. The players, coaches, everybody. So nobody has all the answers. I certainly don’t. It starts with me, and hopefully, we just improve really at every position, including with the quarterback.”

Under Brian Flores, the Dolphins (6-3) have already topped their win total from a season ago. They’re firmly in the playoff picture with seven games left on their schedule.

They’ll hit the road next Sunday, as they are slated to take on Drew Lock and the Denver Broncos.
