Vincent Jackson Likely Died Days Before He Was Discovered

Former Chargers and Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson might’ve died in his Florida hotel room days before being pronounced dead there, according to new information released by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner.

Hotel staff members entered Jackson’s room on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 and noticed that he was seated on the couch but slouched over. They assumed he was sleeping and left.

They became concerned Feb. 15 when they once again found him in the same position. 911 was called at 11:37am.

There were no signs of trauma or injury, other than a small laceration on his left big toe, according to the report.

Jackson had been staying at the hotel since Jan. 11. The family reported that he was missing on Feb. 10, and a formal report was filed the next day. Deputies located and spoke with Jackson at the hotel on Feb. 12 and the missing persons case was canceled.

The New York Times reported on Thursday that Jackson’s family is donating his brain to Boston University for a study on CTE.

“Vincent being who he was would have wanted to help as many people as possible,” family spokesperson Allison Gorrell said. “It’s something his family wanted to do to get answers to some of their questions.”
