Marquez Valdes-Scantling Says Aaron Rodgers Will Be The Guy Until He’s Ready To Stop Playing

The Packers decision to select Jordan Love in the first round created a bunch of headlines on draft night and people are still talking about it now.

But Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is not worried.

“Our quarterback that we have right now is great – the best quarterback to ever throw a football,” Valdes-Scantling said on The Zach Gelb Show. “It’s kind of the same thing when he came in learning under a great quarterback like Brett Favre. Aaron is going to plan on being our quarterback for years to come until he’s ready to stop playing. That’s not a doubt. There’s no competition battle or anything like that; 12 is the guy, and he’s going to be the guy until he’s ready to stop playing football, so we can nip that in the bud now.”

Valdes-Scantling obviously doesn’t have the final word as to what the Packers will end up doing with Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers traded up to select Love, and as ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on this week’s MySportsUpdate Football Podcast, you don’t draft a quarterback in the first-round to have him sit for four years.

The Packers passed on taking a wide receiver with that pick in the first-round and ultimately didn’t draft a single receiver in the entire draft. That’s probably good news for Scantling.

As of now, these are the receivers on the Packers roster: Davante Adams, Devin Funchess, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, Jake Kumerow, Equanimeous St. Brown, Darrell Stewart, Malik Taylor and Darrius Shepherd
