With the circumstances this year, the NFL will look extremely different. Usually teams carry 90 or so players into camp and all the way until after the fourth preseason game. Then comes cutdown day and rosters have to be trimmed to 53.
This year due to COVID-19, teams can either cut from 90 to 80 before July 28, or they can wait until August 16. However, teams that wait to reduce to 80 must utilize split-squad procedures, with one group mainly consisting of rookies, first-year players, and any quarterbacks or injured players assigned to that group. The second group will consist of all the other veteran players.
Some teams are choosing to get down to 80 players now instead of going with 90 and a split squad for 3 weeks. We’ll also see players opting out of the 2020 season. Deadline to opt-out is on August 3.
All the cuts and opt-outs will be tracked on this page and also tweeted on the MySportsUpdate timeline. Bookmarking this page and turning on Twitter notifications is recommended.
