Colin Kaepernick worked out in front of teams on Saturday but the way everything was handled left one Kaepernick supporter unhappy.
According to Sports Illustrated, rapper Jay-Z is “disappointed with Colin’s actions and believes he turned a legitimate workout into a publicity stunt.”
Kaepernick held his workout out at a high school in Atlanta rather than the Falcons training facility. His representatives released a statement accusing the NFL of not acting in a forthright manner in organizing the workout. His workout at the high school was live-streamed and open to the media. Kaepernick’s team reportedly informed the league of his decision to change the location on Saturday at 2:30pm.
25 teams were scheduled to be at the workout, but only eight were in attendance after the location change.
Jay-Z has been vocal in support of Kaepernick. He formed a partnership with the NFL before the start of the season that allows him to help manage entertainment ventures, including the Super Bowl halftime show.
There were rumors that Jay-Z was the one who pressured Commissioner Roger Goodell to host a workout for Colin Kaepernick.
Kaepernick told a group of reporters after his workout that “I’ve been ready for three years, I’ve been denied for three years.”
“We’re waiting for the 32 owners, the 32 teams, Roger Goodell, all of them to stop running. Stop running from the truth, stop running from the people. We’re out here, we’re ready to play, we’re ready to go anywhere,” Kaepernick said.
Kaepernick has been out of the NFL since the end of the 2016 season.
