There was some confusion on Saturday as to what’s going on with Vikings running back Dalvin Cook.
Head coach Mike Zimmer said Cook will be there when the Vikings report to training camp next week.
“I was told he would be” present for the start of camp, Zimmer said. Asked by whom he was told that, Zimmer answered, “By him.”
Cook’s agent Zac Hiller released this statement to ESPN: “First, congrats to Coach Zimmer on his well-earned extension. However, Dalvin has not spoken to him in regards to reporting to camp. We are unsure why this was said. I hope Dalvin can continue to play a major role in the Vikings future success.”
Here’s what happened, according to NFL Network.
Cook told running backs coach Kennedy Polamalu he plans to report to training camp. Polamalu then relayed that to Mike Zimmer.
Zimmer and Cook texted on Saturday night to straighten things out, per the report, and Minnesota expects Cook in camp Tuesday.
Cook is headed into the final year of his contract and there have been reports that he’ll hold out of training camp if an extension isn’t done.
