Panthers Might Be In Tricky Spot With Christian McCaffrey

Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey returned on Sunday for the first time since Week 2 and put up 151 total yards and 2 touchdowns in a loss to Kansas City.

Late in the 4th quarter, he hurt his shoulder and appeared to be grimacing in pain. He returned for one play before going back to the sideline.

NFL Network reported that McCaffrey’s injury could sideline him once again and his status for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers is very much in doubt.

Panthers coach Matt Rhule told reporters that at this point McCaffrey is considered day-to-day and the team expects to know more by Wednesday.

If the Panthers deem McCaffrey’s injury to be a multi-week injury, they could find themselves in an interesting spot.

The new rules this year allow teams to place players on Injured Reserve and activate them after at least three weeks.

However, a player can not return from Injured reserve a second time. Since McCaffrey was already on Injured Reserve, a second trip would end his season.

The Panthers will do everything to keep their star and the highest paid running in the NFL healthy. Their only options would be to keep him on the active roster or to end his season.

This was the play McCaffrey hurt his shoulder:
