Free agent wide receiver Taylor Gabriel won’t play this season.
Gabriel recently tweeted that he decided to opt out of the 2020 season. It’s hard to call Gabriel’s decision “opting out,” since he doesn’t have a team or contract to opt out of.
But either way, he’s not playing this year and hopes to be back in 2021.
I opted to not play this year with covid I’ve had offers to play but chose my families safety stay safe man #Godwilling

In Gabriel’s two seasons with Chicago, he had 96 catches for 1,041 yards and six touchdowns in 25 games. He also suffered two concussions last year, which shortened his season. The team released him in March.
He spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, two with the Atlanta Falcons and the past two with the Bears.
There were some talk that the 49ers would sign him and reunite him with Kyle Shanahan, but that won’t happen this year.
