NFL Coach: Next Week Will Be A ‘Massacre’ Around The League

By Ari Meirov

Cardinals owner Michael Bidwell said on Tuesday that he expects a “seismic shift” in talent across the NFL as we near free agency.

An NFL head coach is echoing the same message.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini tweeted what a coach texted her about the upcoming week:

“It’s going to be a massacre next week all around the league,” the coach said.

We’ve already seen several veteran cut, including JJ Watt, Kyle Rudolph, Kawann Short, Desean Jackson, Kyle Van Noy, Tyrell Williams, and plenty of others. But with a shrinking cap and a number of teams well over the cap, the belief is we’ll see an avalanche of additional moves coming.

The 2020 cap was set at $198.2 million, but the expectation this offseason is for the number to fall to the $180 million to $185 million range. The league is expected to announce the final number in the coming week or so.

A number of teams have serious work to get under the cap and that’s going to spark activity. As a result, the market will be flooded with veteran players released by teams desperate to comply.
