The Dolphins front office thought they needed to improve at running back this past offseason, so they signed Jordan Howard to a two-year, $9.75 million deal.
Their investment has not payed off. Howard has barely seen the field and has been outplayed by 2019 seventh-round running back Myles Gaskin.
According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the Dolphins are willing to trade Howard before the November 3 trade deadline.
Howard has played in four games and has 18 carries for 14 yards (0.8 yards per carry) and 3 touchdowns. He’s been a healthy scratch the last two weeks.
“Jordan’s a competitor,” coach Brian Flores said after Sunday’s game. “He’s a competitive guy who wants to be out there. That’s why he’s here. We’ve got to make decisions, they’re hard decisions. We can only have 48 guys active. We just try to make decisions that are the best for our team. Each guy that’s made inactive, I know they all want to be out there. If they didn’t there’s something wrong.”
Meanwhile, Gaskin has 340 rushing yards and 142 receiving yards through 6 games and has taken full control of the starting role.
The Dolphins are on a bye this week and will return in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Rams with Tua Tagaviloa taking over the starting quarterback job.
