Packers running back Aaron Jones is in the final year of his contract and the two sides are struggling to find common ground on a new deal.
After the latest attempt to strike a deal failed, Jones fired his agent and will be making a change, according to ESPN’s Rob Demosvsky.
Jones, who was a fifth-round pick in 2017, has 1,108 total yards and 9 touchdowns in 11 games this season. He totaled 1,558 yards last season and led the league with 19 touchdowns.
Jones is one of the few elite running backs from the 2017 draft class not to sign an extension.
Before the season, Christian McCaffrey, Alvin Kamara, Dalvin Cook and Joe Mixon all signed long-term deals with their respective deals.
McCaffrey’s $16 million average annual salary is at the top of the running back market, with Ezekiel Elliott right behind him at $15 million.
The Packers used a second-round pick on running back AJ Dillon this past year. Backup Jamaal Williams is also in the final year of his contract.
Green Bay could use the franchise tag on Jones to prevent him from hitting the open market, especially after they got a long-term deal done with left tackle David Bakhtiari.
