Adam Gase’s opening press conference with the Jets was a very memorable one.
His new coaching staff is…. very interesting to say the least.
Among the hires Gase made is Joe Vitt as senior defensive assistant/outside linebackers coach. Vitt has been around the game of football for 41 years. He also happens to be Gase’s father-in-law.
But there’s more to that hire. Vitt was in New Orleans when Gregg Williams got hit with BountyGate. Vitt ended up testifying against Gregg Williams in the scandal. Williams is now the Jets defensive coordinator.
We’re not done yet. The Jets also hired Blake Williams, Gregg’s son, as a defensive assistant. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, Adam Gase wasn’t a fan of the idea of bringing Blake. Gregg wasn’t happy and Gase eventually added him on the staff.
Former Lions OC Jim Bob Cooter also landed on the staff as their RBs coach.
