The Chargers announced on Monday that Philip Rivers will not be back in 2020.
What happens now? Many have linked Tom Brady to LA. Others have predicted Cam Newton to the Chargers.
Chargers GM Tom Telesco was talking about the team’s quarterback situation on AM570 LA Sports today and had this to say:
“It’s too early to eliminate any options but we do like our internal options right now,” Telesco said. “Tyrod Taylor is a player that has won in this league and we think he has a style that fits what we can do. We have some high hopes for Easton Stick and Easton is still a young QB that has a little ways to go. We have a lot of confidence in Tyrod Taylor.”
Word around the league is that the Chargers want a mobile quarterback. Taylor and Stick fit that bill.
But one has to keep in mind that the Chargers are moving into a new stadium and selling tickets and filling up seats is a big part in this.
Going into 2020 with Tyrod Taylor or Easton Stick will not get the job done from a business aspect. A big name like Cam or Brady would.
The Chargers could also look at the draft for a quarterback as they hold the 6th overall pick and are in striking distance to get Oregon’s Justin Herbert or Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.
