The New York Jets hired former Dolphins HC Adam Gase to be their franchise’s next HC on Wednesday night.
Gase, who spent three years in Miami, became the Jets’ choice after Matt Rhule decided to stay put at Baylor.
One of his top priorities is going to be the development of QB Sam Darnold, who was selected with the 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft.
Darnold spoke directly to multiple candidates during the team’s HC search and is convinced the Jets hired the right man in Adam Gase.
Darnold told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News that he is “super pumped” about the Gase hire.
“Coach Gase has done amazing things not with just QBs, but offenses in general,” Darnold said. “I think we can take this a long way. There’s a lot to be excited about. There’s a lot of points that are going to be scored. It’s about meshing together as a team and seeing Coach Gase being able to see some of the weapons that we have and how he can use them. For me, it’s just about delivering the ball on time and with accuracy.”
Eagles WR Alshon Jeffry played for Gase in Chicago and had a lot of positive things to say about the upcoming Gase-Darnold experiment.
“His impact will be huge,” Jeffery told NJ Advance Media on Thursday. “I think Darnold will excel. Knowing the Adam Gase that I know, and the potential the Jets are looking for, I’m pretty sure Sam is going to be a Super Bowl MVP. He can win a Super Bowl. Darnold will be an MVP in this league working with Gase. The way Gase works with QBs, the next year and over the years to come, I expect big things coming from those two.”
